Job Description
The Histopathology Supervisor will establish and oversee new CLIA/CAP histology services within an exciting molecular diagnostics company with a need for internal pathology services. They will coordinate the installation and qualification of equipment in accordance with Personalis procedures and CLIA/CAP requirements, establish policies and procedures and collaborate with team members to integrate histopathology into existing workflows. Additionally, the Histopathology supervisor will coordinate efforts in the lab to ensure the reliable, predictable, and compliant production and delivery of stained slides and images results, both internally and externally once the process is established.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain an orderly, efficient, and safe laboratory

  • Develop and implement histology policies and procedures under the direction of the Laboratory director

  • Implement histology tests and procedures in the laboratory

  • Execute the histology quality and compliance programs of the laboratory related to CAP/CLIA accreditation, FDA requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and licensure

  • Work with others to ensure services are provided to satisfy practice needs and expectations

  • Provide histotechnician coverage as needed

  • Analyze and rearrange workflow, processes, equipment, and schedules in order to optimize quality and throughput

  • Ensure that turn-around times for product output (for example, H&E, special stains, IHC, and digital imaging) are met

  • Administer established guidelines for prioritizing work activities, evaluating effectiveness, and modifying activities as necessary

  • Manage time reporting and other changes affecting payroll

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment in the histology unit

  • Acts as first point of contact for vendors and manufacturers

  • Communicates with other stakeholders, as needed


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science curriculum

  • Meets CLIA ’88 qualifications to perform moderate and high complexity testing

  • HT or HTL certification from the ASCP

  • Current QIHC certification preferred, but not required

  • Minimum of 4 years laboratory experience as a histotechnician (at least one year of experience in IHC preferred)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be tailored to different audiences to enhance the internalization of the message

  • Experience in authorship of standard operating procedures

  • Physical demands include stooping, turning, bending, squatting, kneeling and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Must have proven leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Strong desire to work in a demanding, high-energy, hands-on startup environment
